Kathleen McGuire, First Alto

In her non-singing life, Kathy McGuire, was an educator, holding a Masters of Education from UCSB and having been advanced to PhD candidacy at Kent State University.   She has now retired from a 30 year career in education as a counselor, Advisor to Student Activities, and Department Chair at Santa Barbara City College. Not one to be idle, she stays active by managing her own rental properties and rents her houses to international students, which continues to broaden her horizons.

She has sung with Santa Barbara Choral Society since about 2006, but also finds time to be active in her two churches (planning worship services and teaching classes) and to also sing with the Unity Choir and the SBCC choir.  Singing, she says, not only keeps her voice active, but her brain functioning!

Kathy is an avid traveler, with six sojourns to Africa under her belt, including trips to South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, and Tanzania.   Retirement gave her the opportunity to travel more and her first ‘retirement’ trip was to Antarctica!

She is the companion human to her two Westies (West Highland White Terriers) named Piper and Kenzie, whom she calls the ‘loves of my life’ and who love it when she plays the piano or practices her singing.
