Dr. Dan Secord, In Memoriam

Dan got dropped into the bass section of SBCS some years ago by his friend, David Davidson, who found Dan singing gospel music with Mama Pat and decided he could do more exciting stuff.

In private life, he delivered thousands of Santa Barbara babies over a 35 years medical practice. There was a 15 year political career in there after retirement from medicine with service on the Planning Commission and the Santa Barbara City Council, a governors appointment to the California Coastal Commission, a couple of terms on the County Grand Jury and a pair of unsuccessful bids for election to the County Board of Supervisors.

Before adopting his newest hobby, singing, he has run 5 marathons with his buddies, sailed innumerable sailboat races, including 10 races to Hawaii and finally settled into road bike riding, where he puts in 40 miles each week with the “Bike Group”. Always a fan of transportation, he also rides motorcycles and flies his own airplane.  His newest adventure has been his selection as President of the SBCS board.

Somehow, in all this, he managed a 45 year marriage to Mary, a psychotherapist, had 5 kids and 8-8/9 grandchildren; daughter Jennifer is due in late July. It’s been a wild ride.
