Debra Stewart, Soprano

Debra Stewart has sung with the sopranos since January 1994 and just completed a three year term as Board President, ending in the 2016-17 season. She remains on the board as a Past President and Director of Development.

She made her singing debut at Olivet Lutheran Church in Inglewood, California at age 5, as a member of the Cherub Choir. She continued singing in choirs through Junior High School. At Moorpark College and California State University at Northridge, she studied Opera and performed in scenes from various operas, including as Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, as Olympia in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman, and as Desdemona in Rossini’s Othello. Her musical connection to Conductor JoAnne Wasserman goes back to their college days at CSU Northridge.Debra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Irvine. Her 36-year professional career was in Business where she worked as a Finance Manager and later as a Contracts Manager.

She married musician Steve Stewart in 1983 and they moved to Santa Barbara in 1993.
