Next Up: Ode to Joy, Beethoven’s 9th with SB Symphony October 15/16, 2016

As it is among the most popular of the choral masterworks, most listeners will be aware that the beautiful choral movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is taken from the 1785 poem An die Freude (To Joy) by Friedrich Schiller.  The music is powerful, but what you may not know is what all those beautiful German words (and they are quite beautiful) mean.  The Ode is a call to peace and brotherhood and to confident belief in a benevolent higher power.

Here is a side by side translation of the main choral passages that we hope will make your singing and listening even more pleasurable. Purchase tickets Granadasb.org
